Ferroboron (FeB) – Product Introduction

Ferroboron is a binary ferroalloy composed of boron and iron. It is a powerful deoxidizer and boron addition agent in steelmaking and foundry applications. I specialize in the international trade of ferroboron, with products strictly manufactured in accordance with the GB/T 5682-2015 national standard, and can provide customized specifications according to customer requirements.

I. Product Introduction

Ferroboron is an alloy of boron and iron, typically containing between 10% and 25% boron, with industrial grades commonly at 17.5%–20% B. Its CAS number is 11108-67-1. The boron content can reach up to 25% with advanced production technologies.

Boron has an atomic weight of 10.81, a melting point of 2079°C, and a boiling point of 3660°C. Iron and boron form two extremely stable intermetallic compounds at high temperatures: Fe₂B and FeB. Industrially produced ferroboron (10%–20% B) has a melting temperature range of 1400–1550°C and a density of 5.8–6.5 g/cm³.

The greatest effect of boron in steel is that only a trace amount is needed to significantly improve hardenability, replacing large quantities of alloying elements. Adding just 0.001% boron can multiply the hardenability of steel. In stainless steel, approximately 0.003% B can improve high-temperature strength and hardness.

II. Product Classification

Based on carbon content, ferroboron (boron content: 5%–25%) is divided into two main categories:

CategoryCarbon ContentBoron Content
Low Carbon FerroboronC ≤ 0.05% – 0.1%9% – 25% B
Medium Carbon FerroboronC ≤ 2.5%4% – 19% B

III. Chemical Composition (Reference: GB/T 5682-2015)

The following table shows typical chemical composition requirements for ferroboron grades:

GradeChemical Composition (%)

BC (≤)Si (≤)Al (≤)S (≤)P (≤)
FeB18C0.517–190.51.50.50.010.1
FeB16C1.015–171.02.50.50.010.1

Note: The above data is for reference. Specific indicators can be adjusted according to customer requirements. Under the GB/T 5682-2015 standard, ferroboron is divided into 9 grades based on differences in boron, carbon, and impurity content.
