Product Description
Ferrosilicon is a ferroalloy composed of iron and silicon, with silicon content typically ranging from 40% to 95%. It is one of the most important deoxidizers and alloy additives in the steelmaking and foundry industries. We specialize in the international trade of ferrosilicon products, strictly adhering to the Chinese National Standard GB/T 2272-2020 (modified adoption of ISO 5445:1980), and can provide customized specifications according to customer requirements.
I. Product Introduction
Ferrosilicon is produced by reducing quartz (or silica) with coke and steel scrap in an electric furnace at temperatures of 1500–1800°C. It has a melting point of 1200–1250°C and a density of approximately 6.8–7.2 g/cm³.
Because silicon readily combines with oxygen to form silicon dioxide (SiO₂), ferrosilicon is used as a powerful deoxidizer in steelmaking. The exothermic formation of SiO₂ helps raise the temperature of molten steel. Ferrosilicon also serves as an alloying additive to impart specific properties to steel, and is widely used as a reducing agent in the production of other ferroalloys and in the chemical industry.
Ferrosilicon is an iron‑silicon alloy compound containing small amounts of aluminum, calcium, manganese, carbon, sulfur, and phosphorus as impurities.
Under GB/T 2272-2020, ferrosilicon is divided into four categories based on silicon content and impurity levels:
Representative grades (9 grades total, Si 87.0%–97.0%):
Most commonly traded grades (10 grades total):
Note: PG FeSi72Al2.5 is the benchmark delivery grade for ferrosilicon futures trading on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange, requiring Si ≥72.0%, P ≤0.04%, S ≤0.02%, C ≤0.2%.
Aluminum content strictly controlled (8 grades total):
Strict control of multiple impurities (13 grades total):
Note: Special chemical composition requirements can be negotiated between supplier and buyer. The above data are for reference only; actual analysis certificates are provided with each shipment.
Mill Test Certificate (MTC) provided with each shipment
Third‑party inspection services available (SGS, BV, Intertek, etc.)
Chemical composition analysis, particle size distribution, and moisture content testing
Products comply with GB/T 2272-2020 and can also meet ASTM A483, ISO 5445, or JIS G 2312 standards upon request
